Pay Attention

Hello Everyone,

Well, you aren't going to believe this, my wife came out of the house and got into the van to go Church visitation and noticed that her blouse was inside out. That's right inside out. She looked at me and then at our son and said, "I can't believe that I have put my blouse on inside out.!" Now guess what she said next? She said, "How could you two allow me to go out of the house knowing this, I know that you both had to have noticed that it was inside out?" Well, we did not noticed but we do know it is our fault. And from now on we are going to have to pay better attention to what she is wearing - outside the house.

"Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ." Galatians 6:1-2

Fellowship

Hello Everyone,

A dear older friend of mine share this heart breaking news with me. No matter what you have and accumulate over the years, you will leave all behind one day. Then he went on to say, that before that happens you will give it all up just to have someone kind to share your thoughts with. According to him, folks will get to thinking they have everything, only to find out in the end they have nothing that matters. Nothing in this world can compete with having fellowship with others.

"That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full." 1 John 1:3-4

Work of Any Kind

Hello Everyone,

I was talking to a young man this last week or so and asked him what was his plans. He told me that he was trying to get a job and work the summer. He then complained that there was no jobs available. I asked what kind of work was he looking for and he said, "Right now any kind of work." I then started to name some places and asked if he had applied there. He said that he had not and said, those aren't places that I really want to work at. Well then you need to change your statement, because you aren't willing to work at any kind of work. How sad we have become when we really aren't willing to work of any kind.

"For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread." 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12

Faithful

Hello Everyone,

I have this faithful companion in my office. He is there day in and day out. He never complains nor slacks in doing his job. Which is amazing in itself. Because all I do all day is throw trash at him. Any and all kinds of trash. Yet he takes it and never says anything back to me. Why, he even knows that I am writing about him and sure enough he is sitting back and taking it all in. He ain't nothing but a trash can. Boy I like working around these can heads.

"Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you." Hebrews 13:17

Trash

Hello Everyone,

They are everywhere in your homes. I am talking about garbage cans. Week after week they do their job that is nasty at best. Yet you never hear them complain. Some get a lot of trash thrown at them daily and some get by with very little. The reason is because it all depends upon where they are located. If near the kitchen for example then they get most of the trash. If found located in a isolated bedroom, well then they get very little trash.

My point is this, if you stay close to the main stream media then you are going to get a lot of trash. I suggest that you move away and spend more time in the Word of God, no trash there. Amen

"For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe." 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Go in Peace

Hello Everyone,

It is vacation time again and many folks will out on the roads driving. Please be careful and drive safely. Everyone wants to get there and back with no problems. However, accidents do happen and none of us can say that it will not happen to us. I want to encourage each of you to remember not to leave home without God. Pray and ask for safety. Then when you do leave have the Lord to go before you and make the way safe. God likes it when you count on Him.

Complain

Hello Everyone,

When it gets hot, we complain. When it gets muggy, we complain. When it gets rainy, we complain. When it gets stormy, we complain. When we have tornado watches we stop and watch. When we have tornadoes warnings we find a safe place. Then - when it gets cold we complain, when it freezes we complain. When I think of it, I can see a pattern. It seems that God sends us tornado watches and warning right in the middle of all our complaining.

Opportunities.

Hello Everyone,

I was sitting on the front porch at my home, enjoying the early morning. My wife has two bird feeders out, one she hung from the lower branch of a tree and the other has its own stand. So I find myself sitting out there watching the birds as they come by to feed. On this morning though I noticed a Robin searching my yard from food. Most likely worms. Now listen, the Robin was hoping around looking for more food, and all the time it had a worm in its beak. First thought was that it was being greedy. Then she flew to her nest. Then I thought she is taking advantage of the opportunity to get more food before flying back to the nest. After all there was 3 little babies in her nest.

What a lesson we can learn from God's creatures. Let us not allow an opportunity to slip away.

Soul Winning

Hello Everyone,

A young lady of the nobility, who was also wealthy, fell in love with a young preacher. She went to ask her father if she could marry him and he said, "He's got no background, you don't know where he comes from." She said, "Yes, I know, but I know where he's going and I want to go with him."

Thank God I know where I am going. I am Heaven bound. It should be the hearts desire of every Christian to take as many with them as they can.

Church Ratings

Hello Everyone,

Charles Horton, Pastor, College Park Baptist Church, Orlando, FL. once told of a study that was conducted by a lady that attended 18 different churches on successive Sundays to rate their friendliness. She sat near the front of the sanctuary each time and walked slowly to the rear, then returned to the front using another aisle. On each occasion she was dressed neatly, and with a smile asked at least one person to direct her to the fellowship hall or church office.

She used the following scale to rate her reception:
10 -- for a smile from a worshiper
10 -- for a greeting from someone nearby
100 -- for an exchange of names
200 -- for an invitation to the fellowship hour
1000 -- for an introduction to another worshiper
2000 -- for an invitation to meet the pastor ---- Each of the eighteen churches earned less than 100 points.

The preaching may be biblical, the singing inspirational and the sermon uplifting, but when a visitor finds no one who cares whether or not he/she is there, he/she is not likely to come back. Allow me to ask, "How would your church rate?"

It is a Heart thing

Hello Everyone,

The chairman of the board of a food company, said: You can buy a man's time; you can even buy a man's physical presence at a given place; you can even buy a measured number of skilled muscular motions per hour or day. But you cannot buy enthusiasm; you cannot buy initiative; you cannot buy loyalty; you cannot buy devotion of hearts, minds and souls." Those have to come from the heart. How is your heart toward God in glorifying Him is worship and praise.

"Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;" Ephesians 6:5,6

Eternal God

Hello Everyone,

I have an old pocket watch that belonged to my wife's father. I love that old watch for it often reminds me of God. It has a gold case and a clear face to see the importance of time. It has two hands that are moving all the time, that reminds me that God is always on the move. And that every second counts and is important. And when I open the back of that old watch I am reminded that there is so much to God that we can not see. There is so much of God, that what He is doing even in the back ground that we may never understand nor know. But you know, one day a while back that old watch stopped running. Time for it was no more. It rests in my desk drawer, and still it brings joy to my heart because I know that although life may stop here I can rest assured that God is eternal. Praise God

Longsuffering

Hello Everyone,

Every now and then I make a mistake. Now what I am talking about is a mistake that has slipped my mind, I have overlooked or was not paying attention. It seems to happen more often than I suspected. I took some time to review some of my earlier written devotions and realized that you folks have been very patient with me. A dear friend of mine wrote and told me that they have made the corrections and then sent them on to other places. Thank the Lord, for God is using others to help me when I do make a mistake. I thank the Lord for your patients and forgiving spirit. I never intend for these mistakes to get out of my house. I reread and use Spell Check a lot.

This morning as I think again about you and pray for you folks, I am reminded how Christ like you are by overlooking my mistakes. No telling how many times God has forgiving me for all my mistakes. Those that have slipped my mind and that I have overlooked. Thank the Lord for His patience with me, His long suffering and Amazing Grace.

Just a Book

Hello Everyone,

Over the years man has made some statements that has come to be true. Please understand that the real tragedy is that 99 percent of the people believed them. In 1840 it was stated that "Anyone traveling at the speed of thirty miles per hour would surely suffocate." In 1878 - a man said, "Electric lights are unworthy of serious attention." In 1901 - some told "No possible combination can be united into a practical machine by which men shall fly." In 1926 - (from a scientist) "This foolish idea of shooting at the moon is basically impossible." Then in 1930 - (another scientist) "To harness the energy locked up in matter is impossible." Now with all these experts who said, "It can't be done." Would you want to take a chance on those who believe that the Word of God is "Just a book."

Be Ye Separted

Hello Everyone,

One day while at the sportsman club I noticed the large wires which carries a heavy current of electricity for light and power. I Noticed that it is carefully insulated and at every pole it is out of our reach. If I were able to grasp it, death would be as swift as a lightning stroke. Yet the doves and the others birds suffer no harm when they perch on it. They fly from grass where they find food and then fly to safety on the cables. The secret is that when they contact that wire, they touch nothing else. For you and I the danger would be that while being on the ground the current would turn my body into a channel through which the electricity would flow. Because the birds rest wholly upon the wire, they are unharmed. So God would have us seek our safety in complete surrender to His power and love. It is when we reach one hand to Him while still holding fast to some forbidden thing with the other that we are in danger.

Double Minded

Hello Everyone,

E. Stanley Jones made this statement, "If you don't make up your mind, then your unmade mind will unmake you. Here is the place where there must be no dallying. For any dallying will be the Trojan horse that will get on the inside and open the gates to the enemy. God can do anything for the man who has made up his mind; He can do little or nothing for the double-minded."

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." James 1:5-8

A True Citizen

Hello Everyone,

You have heard much about Arizona's new law. Listen, let us remember when an immigrant comes to America, before he can become a citizen he must renounce all his commitments and allegiance to his former homeland and pledge 100 percent allegiance to America. Then and only then will the U.S. Government grant him citizenship. That's the way it is with Jesus. When you accept Christ as Lord and Savior, you renounce Satan completely. You can't "split time" by serving Satan part-time and Christ part-time.

"No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." Luke 16:13

Fear Not

Hello Everyone,

Probably the greatest book on fear ever written in this country was by Basil King and the title was The Conquest of Fear. Here is the quotation: "Go at it boldly, and you'll find unexpected forces closing round you and coming to your aid." Isn't that terrific? "Go at it boldly, and you'll find unexpected forces closing round you and coming to your aid."

You may defeat worry and fear by filling your mind with the certain faith that you can do it. That is the best way to get rid of the worry and fear about those many things that are bothering you. Get out of yourself and do something about it, realizing that your Heavenly Father reminds us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. (Hebrew 13:5)

I apologizes

Hello Everyone,

As you know I am getting older each day. And with my old age comes a few more mistakes. And I made one. I quoted Friday's devotional as being found in Philippians 3:11-14. The correct scripture verses should have been 1 Corinthians 3:11-14. I do apologizes for this error. And I promise to do better in the future.

Doers

Hello Everyone,

Some Christians are so afraid of failure that they become reserved, overly cautious, and uninvolved in life. They follow a policy of guarded living, holding back time, talents, and treasure from God's service. Their motto is: To keep from failing -- don't try! On the other hand, those who are willing to make mistakes and risk failure are the ones who ultimately achieve great things. Instead of being filled with fear, they go forward in faith. Problems are challenges. While they may not all be solved, these courageous people would rather live with that reality than have a clean record of no failures and no accomplishments.

Benjamin Franklin said one time, "The man who does things makes many mistakes, but he never makes the biggest mistake of all -- doing nothing."

"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward." Philippians 3:11-14

An Advantage

Hello Everyone,

A former pro basketball star tells that at the age of 15 he attended a summer basketball camp that was run a former college and pro star. There is where he heard the words, "Just remember that if you're not working at your game to the utmost of your ability, there will be someone out there somewhere with equal ability who will be working to the utmost of his ability. And one day you'll play each other, and he'll have the advantage."

As for Christians, remember there is a real world that is trying to get an advantage over you. If you don't stay on top of your walk and Bible studies they will have the advantage.

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23,24

Let not man put asunder

Hello Everyone,

I have often wondered how children handle divorce? That question was the springboard for an article in a recent magazine. A young boy and his sister ages 9 and 7, respectively are the real victims of their parent's recent divorce. On Wednesday nights their dad takes them to the local mall for dinner and all the video games they can play. They eat hot dogs and pizza with a cream soda. Then they go to the Time Out video arcade and play Skee Ball. But even in the artificial paradise of the mall, they made it clear what their hearts desire really is for their parent separation. There was a wishing well there and they would always throw a penny in with a prayer, "We pray that Mom and Dad would get back together."

"The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Matthew 19:3-6

Discontent

Hello Everyone,

Some folks just like to complain. There was an inveterate grumbler who couldn't find anything about which to give thanks or praise. Although financially he was a very successful farmer, because of a very sour attitude, no one enjoyed his company. Nothing seemed to please him. His pastor tried to help brighten the outlook, all to no avail. At the time of the potato harvest, the disgruntled farmer enjoyed a bumper crop. Wanting to strike a more cheerful note, the minister suggested, "Brother I understand you've had a tremendous season with potatoes this year. That certainly must be cause for rejoicing!" The chronic complainer never even smiled, but sourly responded, "Yes, it's true. The harvest was good enough. But my problem is, I don't have any bad potatoes to feed my pigs." A thankful heart is not only a virtue, but the parent of all other virtues.

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Colossians 3:15-17
