Tempted

Hello Everyone,
Have you ever been tempted? Now don't lie. To drink right from the milk jog, when no one is looking? Maybe you have been tempted to not give back the extra money that the cashier gave to you by mistake? Or maybe you have eaten some of that Easter candy after your children have gone to bed. Of course no one can pass up a wet paint sign. Then there is all those question on the doctors report, and you have trouble putting down your right weight. These are and can be proclaim to be temptation. We all face them everyday and it is all to believe that God is not going allow us to be tempted above that we are able. Even while I am writing this devotion I can hear the ice cream screaming my name down stairs in the refrigerator. Is that temptation?

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." 1 Corinthians 10:13

He is Coming

Hello Everyone,

Let us consider the first and second coming of Christ as to the completion. The second coming of Christ is the completion of His first coming. Jesus must come again to complete the work of His first coming. BUT, you say, Jesus said on the cross that "It is finished." Yes the work of redemption was finished, there is nothing else that needs to be done, that you can do in the way of salvation. Jesus laid down the foundation for your salvation. But the towers have not been put up. He has won the battle but Jesus has not gotten the bounty. Jesus gained the victory but He did not receive the Kingdom. So one can see, the reason we are watching ever so much more these day, Jesus is coming again.

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Changing Words

Hello Everyone,
A dear friend of mine, Dr. Louis Arnold shared this with me and so I wanted to pass it along to you, with his permission.

Times brings changes. This is especially true of the words people use. If I could go to Heaven and come back twenty years from now I probably would not understand half of what people were saying. I remember when “Good Morning America” was what people said when they got out of bed. I remember when a mackintosh was an apple and a blackberry was something you put in a pie. Some words we use today don’t sound like what they mean. Ebay sounds like a place to go fishing, and uBid is what you would say to your friend at an auction. There was a time when a pilot was someone who piloted a ship or a plane, and I remember when a web was something you swept off the ceiling. There was a time when an alcoholic was a drunk, and a beggar was called a bum, and when someone had a live-in partner it was called shacking-up. In the good-old-days a panhandler was not in the kitchen and a person with pride was considered stuck-up. Now a stuck-up person has self-esteem. The old way of talking may not have been political correct, but it was more honest and more explicit than the way people talk today. And you didn’t have to guess what they were saying.

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." Psalms 19:14

Jesus is Much More

Hello Everyone,

If you were to look for the highest example of meekness that the world had even known, you would not turn to Moses, known as the "meekest man" you would turn to Jesus. If you were to look for the highest example of patience you would not turn to Job, you would turn to Jesus. If you were to look for the highest example of wisdom, you would not turn to Solomon, you would turn to Jesus. If you were to look for the highest example of zeal, you would not turn to Paul, you would turn to Jesus. If you were to look for the highest example of love, you would not turn to John the beloved, you would turn to Jesus. Jesus was all this an much much more.

"Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life." Jude 1:21

A Risen Saviour

Hello Everyone,

A few years back someone placed a booklet in my mail box. It was titled, "Crucifixion or crucifiction" It was written by Alumed Deedat. In his book he quotes 100 of the top influential men in history. According to his book Muhummed was number 1 and Jesus was number three. He goes on to say, "Had the Christians accepted the Holy Quran as the Word of God, the problem of the crucifixion would never have risen. (I did not know that it was a problem.) He then went on to say, "Christians are trained to hate the Man Mohamed and his religion." Please note that I am only repeating what he said in his book. This unknown person who left this book in the mail box said more than he really knows. Why? Because he in his own words called him, "The Man Mohamed". Yes indeed he is nothing more than a man. We serve a risen Saviour, Jesus Christ, who is God.

"But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:" 2 Timothy 1:10

Dark Hearts

Hello Everyone,

When we conclude that each of us is capable of the worst of behavior. No environment is more dangerous than the dark side of the human heart. It has proved itself over the years, just look at all the evil that surrounds us. No wonder Paul called himself the chief of sinners. Paul came to a place where he knew who he was and even with an evil heart, Paul's heart desire was that he may share with others their need for a Saviour. That should be the desire of everyone, to see that others come to know Jesus as Saviour.

Worry Box

Hello Everyone,

I heard of this fellow who decided that he was going to set aside one day a month to worry. So when a worry came up he would write it down and put it into a box. Then on that day that he was going to worry he would go to the box and get all those pieces of paper out to worry. Of course by the time he opened the box with all his worries most of those worries were already settled. It would be a good practice for Christian to do the same thing. Give all your worries to God, and allow Him to settle them. He careth for you.

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Peter 5:6,7

None of your Business

Hello Everyone,

Folks get offended easy these days. I asked a man once if he was to die today would he go to heaven. He told me, "It ain't none of your business." At first I thought how does he know what my business is? Then I reminded him that it was my business. He just walked away and I have never seen him since. God put pastors here to preach and lead the flock of God. People is my business. Not that many years ago, folks kept the pastor aware of their business. No one complains about the devil doing his business. So am I to sit back and watch folks going about establishing their own righteousness and heading in the wrong direction, where the bridge is out, and just mind my own business? I think not. If ever there is a need, there is a need to yell louder, "THE BRIDGE IS OUT, YOU ARE GOING THE WRONG WAY." And yes that is my business.

"For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." Romans 10:3,4

Wrong Price

Hello Everyone,

A couple of prowlers broke into a store one night. After successfully entering into the store, they escaped after doing what they came to do. What was so unusual is that they did not take anything. Instead they changed the cost of everything in the store. Sad thing is no one noticed the next day, business was conducted for 4 hours before it was found out that something was wrong. Many folks got some real bargains and others got taken. Hard to believe? Well it shouldn't be, we are seeing it today. We are overwhelmed by a system that places values on everything. We are seeing the most valuable things being peddled for pennies and the most cheapest smut be sold for millions. What would cause folks to pamper the skin and pollute the heart? Someone broke into the store of this world and exchanged all the price tags. Cheap trills are at an all time high, and the value of a soul is at an all time low. Why? Because we have done away with our instruction manual. The Holy Word of God.

"Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron; Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help."

Saviour

Hello Everyone,

Try to think with me, there on the other two crosses were two thieves, who were deserving of everything that they had coming and most likely more. You see this has become a real problem today, because folks aren't getting what they deserve. Amen! (None of us are getting what we deserve). But these two thieves openly admits that they are getting their just due. But one asked Jesus for forgiveness. Who does he think he is? He is a whosoever, just like you and me. But now could Jesus do that? He knows all about this thief. Why would Jesus forgive such a one that is so unworthy? Because Jesus came to save sinners and that is why they call Him Saviour.

"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." 1 Timothy 1:15

Old Fashioned

Hello Everyone,

My son would tell me, "Dad that is old fashioned." I would answer, "Yes sir and don't you forget it!" I like a lot of the old ways, life seemed to be more simpler. I loved to listen to my grandpa as he would tell me about the old days. Every now and then he would ask me if I remembered this or that and most of the time I did not. He would share with me about a place or an old rabbit dog that he called Ringo. Never be a dog like old Ringo. The thing is those old days are gone and we can not go back. The old home isn't there. The fellow down the road is dead. The old fishing ponds are dried up. The old fields are over run with weeds. The family get together have all faded into 7 day work weeks. The old wood shed is gone and the corn crib. We just don't have the time we used to have for these, for we have giving all this time over to TV. I would love to see more folks give up TV for a month and let us apply that time to prayers. Hmmm just maybe we could see revival again in this Nation.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

Stop the Bus

Hello Everyone,

Common sense is off and running and not only is there no one chasing it, but folks haven't gotten enough sense to know what to do with it if they were to catch it. One of my daily prayers has been for the Lord to give our nation some good common sense. Books and much learning has taking her far in many wrong areas. She is in need of some common sense that will take her back in the right direction. Common sense will tell her that the route she is going and the results she is having is not working. Right! So if it ain't working - stop and get off the bus. Are you listening America? It is time to turn back to God!

Prayers

Hello Everyone,

Paul tells us that we ought to be ready for battle. Because the devil is always ready to attack as a roaring lion. However you do understand that it is impossible to win against the devil with out God? Paul was in prison in Rome and he more than likely saw the armor of the Roman soldiers. That may have reminded him of Christian's needs to put on the whole Armor of God. Paul then goes on to say that no amount of armor can produce a warrior. To become a valiant warrior for God there has to be an inward strength and courage, without this one is doomed in battle. That is why I believe that the Word of God is our offensive weapon and these other pieces is our defensive weapon, then prayers is our Greatest Weapon.

Confused

Hello Everyone,

Do you remember falling in love? Come on you know what I mean. Real love. Way too many know nothing of love only falling. It is one of the most exciting time in ones life. I fell in love with Jesus many years ago and I have not been the same since. I love to hear from Him and to talk to Him and to be around Him. That is what falling in love is about. Folks who never want to be around others that they say they love confuses me. Wives that go out with the girls or shopping all the time and not take care of their homes confuses me. Men who say they love their wives and yet they spend more time in bars instead of going home to their wives confuses me. Couples that don't want anything to do with each other confuses me. Thank God for God's love, it is never confusing.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39

Bring Then In

Hello Everyone,

How here is something to finish a week with. Did you know that in the Gospels you will find some 40 people who had diseases. Jesus healed all 40. Amen! Now listen carefully, 34 out of those 40 that were healed by Jesus were brought to Jesus by someone. That someone was someone just like you and me. That means that 6 out 7 people needed to be brought to Jesus. We should have a real concern for our families and friends who are going to a devil's hell and what are we doing about it? Listen folks, only on an occasion will someone come to know Jesus as Saviour through reading the Bible or by tracts. But 6 out 7 will have to have someone to guide them and bring them to Jesus. We will have to bring them in.

"Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established." Exodus 15:17

Book Report

Hello Everyone,

God remembers that group of folks who say that they are going to serve Him. That they are going to be faithful with their time, talents and treasures. Yet God also remembers, and it is written in a book, a group of folks who did not really believe that God still sees. It is easy to believe when all is going well. It is even easier to say that you believe when all is well. But when the rubber meets the road words become stout against God. If not by words, by actions, and God remembers. And it is written in a book, and the books will be opened for all those who do not believe.

"I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." Revelation 20:12

Stay Seated

Hello Everyone,

When as a child growing up my grandparents had a house with a porch that wrapped 3/4 around the house. We spent a large number of hours out on that porch. There was plenty of chairs and at times we would have plenty of folks out there. There is where the young listened and learned. At least that was suppose to be the ideal. Truth is many times the young weren't listening at all, they were just there. Whatever was being discussed would soon be forgotten when you got up from your seat. I have found that to be also true a lot at our churches, whatever was being preached was soon forgotten when folks got up from their seats. So just stay seated and increase your learning.

My Rock

Hello Everyone,

Many years ago I watched my sons try to build a tree house. They had the desire and want to, but they lacked a lot of knowledge when it comes to building tree houses. They were using 16 penny nails to nail a 1/4 piece of plywood to a 1/2 piece of furring strip. All this was to supported by a cardboard box base. It was fun to watch their enthusiasm but the truth is they needed guidance. There was no way, as their father, was I going to allow them to play in that tree house. So it is with our Heavenly Father, when He sees our desire and enthusiasm. Yet He knows and will not allow us to continue to play in with sin.

Never Quit

Hello Everyone,

Whoever started the rumor that the Christian life should be free from trouble knows little about the Bible. God never promised us a problem free journey. Paul knew what it was to be persecuted, abandoned, misunderstood, and misrepresented. However, there is one thing he did not know. He knew nothing about quitting. Jesus warned his closest followers that they would, as He did, have to face and endure hardships. It seems that many Christians in our present generation are not willing or prepared to suffer for our Lord. Wherever our path leads us, and whatever challenges we face, God has promised to be with us. May we as the New Testament Christians rejoice when we are counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

"We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed." 2 Corinthians 5:8

Receive Not

Hello Everyone,

Allow me to finish week asking a question. If God asked you, "What shall I give you?" What would you ask for? Now think about it for a moment. Be truthful with yourself because God knows your heart and your answer. Would you ask for riches, long life, or maybe honor or maybe an opportunity to finally be that person you always wanted to be.
God asked Solomon that question. What a question, no telling what went through Solomon's mind before he gave his answer. I would like to think that I know what I would ask for. However, things change in your life. One day your need is this and the next it is something else. Yet I say unto you that folks are most likely missing out on many things because they are asking amiss. Or could it be that they don't believe that God can?

"Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."

I. Will Later

Hello Everyone,

Folks being lazy are bad to keep putting things off, with the hope of doing it some time later. This attitude will soon become a habit. I preached a funeral message of a dear friend of the church many years back of a man named , I. Will Later. I never really got to know Mr. I. Will Later because he never made it to church. But when he died, his wife, Mrs. Hope to Later, called and asked that I conduct a service for him. It was then that I found out that he was survived by one daughter, Maybe Later, and two sons, Sometime Later and the youngest son named Going to Later. They were a very close family that stayed together all the time but they never got anything done. Listen of all the things you can put off, please don't out Jesus off. You will die one day.

Watching

Hello Everyone,

Jesus is coming back soon and because He is, He told us to watch, not wait. There is a difference. And it can be explained by this illustration. A fishing vessel was returning home after being many days at sea. As they neared the shore the captain with binoculars was identifying the wives and others that had gathered on the shore. Looking through his binocular he identified some of them. "I see Bills' Mary, and there is Tom's Margaret and David's Anne. One of the men got concerned because he did not hear that his wife was there. Later after leaving the ship with a heavy heart he hurried home and opened the door and his wife ran to meet him saying, "I have been waiting for you!" He replied, "Yes, but the other men's wives were watching for them!" May the Lord find you watching, He really is coming back soon.

Lonely at the Top

Hello Everyone,

Growing up in the hills of Kentucky we have hills every where. We call them mountains but really they are hills. I have seen mountains. I used to run and down those hills with ease back then. However ever now and then you would find one that was a little harder to climb and after reaching the top you just sit and rest. Have you ever been to the top of a mountain? It is so peaceful and beautiful up there. Why, you even think that you would just stay there forever. Mountains are a place to rest and relax for a season. But you can't stay there forever! It gets cold and lonely on top. Man needs fellowship lest Satan come by and tempt you.

"Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency."
