What to do?

Hello Everyone,

I am ashamed to admit this to you but nonetheless it is true. I was on my way to an appointment and drove by a dear lady who had a flat tire. There she was standing in the rain with a look of "What do I do?" I thought to myself, how awful it is that someone doesn't come along and help that poor lady. I would stop myself if I did not have this appointment!" I wished that I could say, I was convicted on my very own words. It was not until I read these words that I realized I had failed.

And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise."

Mud Sitting

Hello Everyone,

A farmer was out plowing his field one spring morning. The spring thaw had just occurred and there were many muddy valleys in the field. Through one particularly wet place his tractor became stuck in the mud. The harder he tried, the deeper he became stuck. Finally, he walked over to his neighbor's to ask for help. The neighbor came over and looked at the situation. He shook his head, and then said, "It doesn't look good, but I tell you what. I'll give it a try pulling you out. But if we don't get it out, I'll come sit in the mud with ya!"

Although we may not all be farmers, we do experience getting "stuck in the mud" from time to time. And chances are we probably know someone who is stuck right now. Have you tried "mud-sitting" with a friend? It may be the best thing you can do!

"If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind." Philippians 2:1-2

Counting on You

Hello Everyone,

The story was told of a little fellow in the ghetto was teased by some other boys who said, "If God loves you, why doesn't he take care of you? Why doesn't God tell someone to bring you shoes and a warm coat and better food?" The little lad thought for a moment then with tears starting in his eyes, said, "I guess He does tell somebody, but somebody forgets." God's plan is to care through His followers and that caring is the fruit of goodness. Let us not forget who we represent and serve. Others are counting on you.

Get Busy

Hello Everyone,

I am forever these days talking with folks who have lost their joy. Most time it is based upon their focus. They focus upon themselves. A man came to the pastor one time and said, "I don't know what's wrong with my life, but that first Christian joy I knew has passed by. I still live a moral life. I go to church. But how can I recover the lost of joy in my faith?" His pastor said, "This is what you should do: go to the store and buy a big basketful of groceries and go to an address of a poor family I will give you. Then when you have given your gift, you sit down with them to find out what they need. Let them know that you are interested in them and that you are their friend. Then lead them in prayer before you leave, and in no time that joy will come back."

Get Busy doing something for someone who is in need. You will be glad you did.

Hello Everyone,

A man fell into a pit and couldn't get himself out. A SUBJECTIVE person came along and said: "I FEEL for you, down there."
An OBJECTIVE person came along and said: "It's logical that someone would fall, down there."
A CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST came along: "You only THINK that you are in a pit."
A PHARISEE said: "Only BAD people fall into a pit."
A MATHEMATICIAN calculated HOW he fell into the pit.
A NEWS REPORTER wanted the exclusive story on his pit.
A FUNDAMENTALIST said: "You DESERVE your pit."
CONFUCIUS said; "If you would have listened to me, you would not be in that pit."
BUDDHA said: "Your pit is only a state of mind."
A REALIST said: "That's a PIT."
A SCIENTIST calculated the pressure necessary (lbs./sq.in.) to get him out of the pit.
A GEOLOGIST told him to appreciate the rock strata in the pit.
AN EVOLUTIONIST said: "You are a rejected mutant destined to be removed from the evolutionary cycle." In other words, he is going to DIE in the pit, so that he cannot produce any "pit-falling offspring."
The COUNTY INSPECTOR asked if he had a permit to dig a pit.
A PROFESSOR gave him a lecture on: "The Elementary Principles of the Pit."
An EVASIVE person came along and avoided the subject of his pit altogether
A SELF-PITYING person said: "You haven't seen anything until you've seen MY PIT!!"
A CHARISMATIC said: "Just CONFESS that you're not in a pit."
An OPTIMIST said: "Things COULD be worse."
A PESSIMIST said: "Things WILL get worse!!"

JESUS, seeing the man, took him by the hand and LIFTED HIM OUT of the pit.

"I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings." Psalms 40:1-2

Enjoy

Hello Everyone,

I happen upon this poem and the author is unknown to me. Enjoy

Take a moment to listen today
To what your children are trying to say;
Listen today, whatever you do
Or they won't be there to listen to you.
Listen to their problems, listen for their needs,
Praise their smallest triumphs, praise their smallest deeds;
Tolerate their chatter, amplify their laughter,
Find out what's the matter, find out what they're after.
But tell them that you love them, every single night
And though you scold them, be sure you hold them;
Tell them "Everything's all right;
Tomorrow's looking bright!"
Take a moment to listen today
To what your children are trying to say;
Listen today, whatever you do
And they will come back to listen to you.

"But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:14

Faithful Prayers

Hello Everyone,

I know of a man who prays faithfully for his son. He is always asking me, (and I am sure many others) to pray for his son. He has a hard time understanding why his son is such a mess, as he puts it. According to him, he provides him with plenty of spending money. He is permitted choose his own companions and come and go as he feels at night. And I try not to harass him as to where and with whom he spends his time. He went on to say that He and his son never pray together and that he is careful to not allow him to hear or see him pray.

"Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying." Proverbs 19:1
"He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes."

Time Spent

Hello Everyone,

Dr. James Dobson tells the story about a team of researchers that wanted to learn how much time middle-class fathers spend playing and interacting with their small children. First, they asked a group of fathers to estimate the time spent with their one-year-old youngsters each day, and received an average reply of fifteen to twenty minutes. To verify these claims, the investigators attached microphones to the shirts of small children for the purpose of recording actual parental verbalization. The results of this study are shocking: The average amount of time spent by these middle-class fathers with their small children was thirty-seven seconds per day! Their direct interaction was limited to 2.7 encounters daily, lasting ten to fifteen seconds each! That, so it seems, represents the contribution of fatherhood for millions of America's children.

"And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Choose to Die

Hello Everyone,

The true depth of the Savior’s love becomes apparent when you consider an important truth — Jesus Christ is the only person who ever chose to die. “But what about kamikaze pilots in World War II? What about soldiers who, having heard the ominous 'click' of a land mine, bravely stood still until their buddies could scurry to safety?” They didn’t choose to die in the final sense of the word; they only chose when to die. You and I and everyone yet to be will die eventually, but there was only One who did not have to die. Nails didn’t hold our Savior to the tree. Silver cords of love and golden bonds of redemption held Him there.

“...because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of My Father.” John 10:17-18

Master is calling

Hello Everyone,

I read about a man who had a very fine dog who loved the water. One day the dog was playing in the lake, and the man decided to leave. He called the dog, but the dog wouldn’t come. He called him several times; still he wouldn’t come. It was a well-trained dog, but he just would not come. The man finally threw a stick out in the water. When the dog saw it, he swam over, got the stick, and came back and laid it at his master’s feet. It just may be that God has given you a burden because He can’t get your attention. He wants you to come and lay it at your Master’s feet. Is your heart aching today? Cast your burden at His feet and allow His peace to fill your heart.

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22

Sweet Smell

Hello Everyone,

One Sunday we were sitting in the living room after lunch. One of my son's girl friend came and stood at window looking outside. While she was standing there is breeze that was coming in drove her sweet perfume smell into the room. Boy did it make the room smell good. She soon moved away and the smell quickly left the room. I commended, "Please go and stand by the window again."

I was reminded that God provides all our needs. My prayers is that we are sweet smelling and an acceptable unto the Lord.

"But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:18-19

Rock Solid

Hello Everyone,

God wants to build spiritual steel and rock-solid faith into you. And the way He does this is through the fires of affliction. Why? To test you. The faith that can’t be tested, can’t be trusted. The times you will grow the most are not when everything was going fine. The times when we go through sorrow, pressure, and trouble are the growing pains of our lives with Christ. Isn’t that true? Someone wrote these lines, “I walked a mile with pleasure. She chatted all the way. But left me none the wiser, for all she had to say. I walked a mile with sorrow and not a word said she. But oh, the things I learned from her, when sorrow walked with me.”

Are you in the fire of affliction? Trust that He will see you through and make you stronger when the test is over.

"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18

Do you know Him?

Hello Everyone,

One day while making a call on a businessman with a friend. This dear man of God began giving his testimony of how the Lord saved him, but then he said something that really shocked me. I was speechless. He said, “I used to believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and that He was buried and rose again, but I don’t believe it anymore.” I was stopped dead in my tracks. Then with a smile on his face, he said, “I don’t believe it anymore. Now, I know it!” Oh, to go from believing to knowing the Saviour.

Do you know Him — really know Him — today? Or do you just believe that He died, was buried, and rose again?

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.”  Philippians 3:10

Schooling Fish

Hello Everyone,

I was watching the Discovery Channel the other day about the deep oceans. It was about Whales. While they were filming and concentrating on the whales there came by a school of fish that swam together almost as one. It was neat to see them dart back and forth as one to avoid the whales. Then out of no where one of the whales would rush right into the middle of that school of fish and bust them up. But it was only seconds and the school would be back together again. Funny how a school of fish can still stay together in times of trouble. There is much that we can learn from schooling fish.

"That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love." Good Standings

Hello Everyone,

I pray that you are member of a good church in good standings. In that I mean you are active doing something for God and faithful to show up. I am in hopes that you aren't like some members, who are like wheelbarrows -- not any good unless they are pushed. Some are like canoes -- need to be paddled. Some are like kites -- if a string isn't kept on them, they will fly away. Some are like kittens -- only contented when petted. Some are like balloons -- full of air and ready to blow up. Some are like footballs -- you can't tell which way they are going bounce next. Some are like trailers -- they have to be pulled along. Some are like neon lights -- they keep going on and off. Many, thank goodness, are like the North Star -- there when you need them, dependable and ever loyal.

"Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;" Philippians 1:27

You are Free

Hello Everyone,

This was sent to me by a friend and I had to pass it along. Enjoy.

One day Abraham Lincoln was in a slave market and saw a beautiful young slave girl being auctioned. Lecherous men were bidding on her, so Lincoln began to bid. Finally, she was sold to Lincoln. He took the certificate of sale and handed it to her saying, “You're free.” She asked, “What do you mean free?” He said, “You are free.” She said, “Free to do what I want to do?” He said, “Yes.” “Free to say what I want to say?” He said, “Yes.” “Free to go where I want to go?” He said, “Yes.” She said, “Then I am going with you.” Friend, Jesus made you free. You have been redeemed by His precious blood. And in gratitude, your life is to be devoted to Him. If you know someone who is in bondage to sin today? Share with them the free, redeeming love of Jesus Christ. You will be glad you did.

Serve the Lord

Hello Everyone,

I may have shared this with you before, but it bears repeating. A little old man was seen every Sunday morning walking to church. He was deaf, so he could not hear a word of the sermon or the music of the choir, or the hymns sung by the congregation. A scoffer asked, "Why do you spend your Sundays in that church when you can't hear a word?" He replied, "I want folks to know which side I'm on!"

"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Everybody Can

Hello Everyone,

Once upon a time there were four men named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody . There was an important election coming up and Everybody was asked vote. But Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it. But Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about it, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, and Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody and Nobody did the job that Anybody could have done in the first place. Amen

One Nation Under God

Hello Everyone,

You realize that the Constitution of the United States says nothing about the separation of church and state. That phrase does appear in the Soviet Constitution. Nothing in our history indicates that the government should be independent of moral values or that Christian folks shouldn't take an active role in our government. The first official act of the U.S. Congress formed under our Constitution was to select a chaplain. The second act was to authorize the purchase of 20,000 Bibles to give to the Indians. I would asked that you go back and read the history books - but they are changing them everyday.

Every political candidate has political values which he acquired somewhere. The same can be said about their religious views. Our nation was born as a government that was based upon God's Holy Word. There is no reason why we should not speak and turn up at these up and coming elections to pull down those who don't really care.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance." Psalms 33:12

Welcome

Hello Everyone,

How does your church welcome outsiders? I am sure that you would say with a smile and open arms, right? The truth is the church should have a great big "WELCOME" mat out front with a Great big welcome feeling on the inside. Our welcome should be to all who need comfort; to all who want friendship; to those who desire acceptance; to all who want sheltering love; to those who sin and need a Savior. And to whosoever will come. The churches door are to be wide open, and in the name of Our Lord it should say, WELCOME.

"And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." Revelation 22:17

A Love Letter

Hello Everyone,

The Bible is actually a beautiful "love letter" from God, and the writer of Psalm 119 admonishes us to delight in its message and to meditate upon its contents. How sad that many Christians neglect it!! Sadder still that countless lost souls have never opened the Book at all. All of us are alienated from God because of sin. But He has provided a way of reconciliation. In the Bible He tells about it, and also expresses His earnest longing for fellowship with us. If you are a born-again child of God, how precious His love message from Heaven ought to be to you! Are you reading it often? If you are not a believer and pay no attention to the Bible you're cheating yourself, and someday you'll stand before God condemned and maybe lost forever. Then you'll wish you had opened and read His "love letter" to you. Please start a daily reading of God's word today.

"And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." John 20:30-31
