Dying Churches

Hello Everyone,

The story was told of an artist that was asked to put on canvas what he considered to be the picture best symbolizing a decaying and dying church. After several months, the hour finally arrived when the painting was to be unveiled. Several people standing around the easel had already given their description of what they thought the church would look like. Some had said it would be a rundown building in great need of repair and paint. Weeds would be growing in the church yard, and there would be some broken window panes. Everyone in the group seemed to have the same picture in mind.

However, when the cloth was removed, a hush fell over the group. Everyone was stunned. Before their eyes was an absolutely beautiful church building. The grounds were well kept and the exterior of the building was in excellent condition. After a few minutes, one person stepped forward and said to the artist, "I thought we asked you to paint a dying church?" The artist smiled and invited everyone to step closer to the painting. He pointed through the windows to the empty pews and to the collection plate on the table. There was nothing in the plate but "cobwebs." The church that has cobwebs in its collection plate is a church that is decaying and dying.

Without the giver, there is no giving. Without the giving, ministries cannot be conducted by the church. Without ministries being conducted, the mission of the church cannot be carried out. If the mission of the church is not carried out, the church is purposeless and dead.

"And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Revelation 3:1,2

Successful Garden

Hello Everyone,

We are about to go into a new year 2010. Let us be found faithful to plant a successful garden for the Lord.
First, plant five rows of peas:
Presence.
Promptness.
Preparation.
Purity.
Perseverance.
Next to these plant three rows of squash:
Squash gossip.
Squash criticism.
Squash indifference.
No garden is complete without turnips:
Turn up for the meetings.
Turn up with a smile.
Turn up with new ideas.
Turn up with determination to make everything count for something good and worthwhile.

"And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1:5-8

Cold Weather

Hello Everyone,

It is getting cold in our part of the country. As winter approaches there are all kinds of suggestions of utilizing fuel and making our homes and work places warmer. Here are a few pointers for keeping warm in church when it is cold outside:

* Rush to the front of the church to avoid the draft in the rear.

* Invite your neighbors and friends and sit 10 persons to the pew.

* Seat yourself near the pulpit; much hot air is emitted from that area.

* Fuss and fume when you don't like what the preacher says.

* Wear thermal underwear.

* Wait for an unfamiliar hymn - then watch the sparks fly!

* Let the Holy Spirit fill you, it will warm your heart and body.

"Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;"

Getting back to Basic

Hello Everyone,

More than a hundred years ago D. L. Moody lashed out as a loving critic to certain parts of the church of his time for its misappropriation of energies. The church reminded him, he said, of firemen straightening pictures on the wall of a burning house. In a single sentence he drew a vivid picture of what many of us can become in any generation when we forget the basic activities given to us by the Lord for the church.

"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:" Ephesians 4:11-13

I Quit

Hello Everyone,

The reasons why I'm giving up sports: football in the fall, baseball in the summer, basketball in the winter. I've had it all. I quit attending sports once and for all, and here are my 11 excuses:

1. Every time I went, they asked for money.

2. The people I sat next to didn't seem friendly.

3. The seats were too hard and not comfortable at all.

4. I went to many games but the coach never came to call on me.

5. The referees made decisions that I couldn't agree with.

6. The game went into overtime and I was late getting home.

7. The band played numbers I'd never heard before and it wasn't my style of music.

8. It seems the games are always scheduled when I want to do other things.

9. I suspect that I was sitting next to some hypocrites. They came to see their friends and they talked during
    the whole game.

10. I was taken to too many games by my parents when I was growing up.

11. I hate to wait in the traffic jam in the parking lot after the game.

Already Christmas

Hello Everyone,

When the boys were growing up at Christmas time they would always do a lot of snooping, trying to find the gift --wrapped presents with their name and figure out what was in them. If they discovered a package with their name on it that would be the one they would focus on to find out what it was. There was no way to disguise some of the gifts. I noticed that when Mom wasn't around, they would go and feel the package, shake it, and pretend like it was something they happen onto. The point is, they were already enjoying the presents. If it had their name on it, they knew pretty much what it was. But only when Christmas comes would it reveal its fullness.

Think with me the joy we feel that fills our hearts with great anticipation. We look longingly to that day when we shall enjoy heaven in all its fullness. What a day that will be, when we See Jesus.

"For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it."

Jesus came to save sinners

Hello Everyone,

The story was told of a man climbing a mountain, at the top of which he hopes to find God. By ascending the heights, the seeker expects to leave all the cares and miseries of life behind in the valley. But while he climbs, God is coming down the mountain into the toil and grief of the world. In the mists of the mountain God and the man pass one another. When the man reaches the mountain top, he will find nothing. God is not there. What then will he do? He knows the climbing was a mistake, but in agony of that recognition, will he fall down and despair? Or will he turn to retrace his path through the mists and into the valley to where God has gone seeking him? Love came down at Christmas, but only a few perceived His coming.

"And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen." 1 Timothy 1:14-17

Christmas Thanks

Hello Everyone,

2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

All of us look forward to giving and receiving gifts from our loved ones. Nothing wrong with that as long as we don't forget the best gift ever came from our heavenly Father – the gift of His dear Son.

Let me suggest a few gifts that you may want to share with others this year:

1. A heart of forgiveness and understanding toward others.

2. A tongue that praises God and is an encouragement to all.

3. Compassion for those who are without Christ, those who are grieving, hurting, friendless or homeless.

Christ came to live the life that we could not live, To pay the debt that we could not pay, To give us an eternal life that we could never obtain.

Worship God

Hello Everyone,

A two inch long discolored eyetooth is reverenced by 400 million Buddhists as the most sacred object on earth. The tooth is supposed to have been reclaimed from Buddha's funeral pyre in 543 B.C. and was brought to Ceylon 800 years later.

Today the tooth sits upon a golden lotus in the glorious temple of the tooth in Kandy, Ceylon. It is surrounded by rubies and tons of flowers. Each year a hundred thousand faithful Buddhists come from many countries to gaze at the sacred tooth. They bring gifts of gold, silver and jewels to place within the temple.

Sad to read about these that will go to such great length and expenses for a tooth. Yet we have the truth, a truth that will set you free. Now tell me again why is that you can't go to church?

What is in your pile?

Hello Everyone,

I was sharing with the church last Wednesday night that the reason folks fail God is so many areas is because they have not given God their all. They may have given God some their best or at least their tithes. But folks fail to give God their all. Christians have two piles of stuff. One piles is what they have given God and the other pile is their stuff. Usually their pile is a lot bigger. One reason their stuff stays so much bigger is because many times folks give God something and then go and take it back. So often, Christians are just not ready to give it to God. So therefore their pile of stuff stays bigger. I wonder what kind of stuff are you holding onto that you really do need to give to God?

Reasonable Service

Hello Everyone,

A fellow that had just got back to America reported that the membership of the Moscow Baptist church has a participation level of almost 100 percent. It seems that the Russian Christians are zealous for their faith. The pastor proclaimed, "In Russia, we have no four-wheel Christians." He coined this phrase to describe people who ride to church for their baptism, for the Easter morning service, for the Christmas program, and for their funeral. Sad as it is to say, a large percentage of people in the free world who profess to believe on Jesus are little more than "four-wheel Christians." How about you? Is your church attendance irregular? Do you tend to be a passive observer rather than an active participant in the cause of Christ? What is it that you call reasonable?

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1

True Worshippers

Hello Everyone,

Worship in these days is more like being a tourist. Worship is more of an attractive site to be made when we have adequate leisure. For some it is a weekly jaunt to church. For others, occasional visits to special services. Some, come only for Christian entertainment and then others plan their lives around special events like retreats, rallies and conferences. Some will go to see a new personality, to hear a new truth, or to get a new experience. Some take time out of their otherwise humdrum lives. They'll try anything -- until something else comes along.

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:23,24

Commitment

Hello Everyone

I was talking to some older folks that was sharing with me that what younger folks are struggling with these days is no different than in their days. The only difference today is lack of commitment. What some folks cry about now was a way of life then. So what has changed? It is most likely connected to sin, selfishness, laziness and spoiled. There is a great need for commitment these days. Folks aren't really afraid to commit, primarily because they feel that it has no real meaning or value. Sad days we live in, things don't seem to be as solid on commitment as it once was.

God knows my name

Hello Everyone,

A mother who was asked by a census taker how many children she had. She responded, "Well, there's Billy and Harry and Martha and...." "Never mind the names," the man interrupted, "Just give me the number!" The mother replied, "They haven't got numbers, they've all got names." That's the way it is in our relationship with the Lord. When Paul was writing to Timothy, he gave him the assuring word that "the Lord Knows those who are His" (2 Tim. 2:19). I think that is awesome, God knows me. Does God know you?

"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." 2 Timothy 2:19

Just do it.

Hello Everyone,

R. A. Torrey once told the story that when he was studying theology in the university, D. L. Moody came to town for meetings. Torrey and a few of his friends went to hear him and concluded that although he was uneducated, he knew some things they didn't. Wanting to learn the secret of his success, they said to the evangelist, "We wish you would tell us how to do it." They meant, of course, how do you preach and get such good results? Moody responded by inviting them to come back the next evening, promising to answer their question then. Before the service the following night, they met with the evangelist again. After giving them a few words of Scripture, he said, "You go at it! The best way to learn to do it is to do it!"

"Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess." Enthusiam

Hello Everyone

I have found that no one keeps up his enthusiasm automatically. Enthusiasm must be nourished with new actions, new aspirations, new efforts, new vision. It takes time and effort. For one to lose their once great enthusiasm it is one's own fault. They have failed to feed it and protect it. One of the main reason I see so many folks today trying new and wild things, going the extra mile, and seeking adventures outside their normal ream is because they have failed to keep first things first. Their eyes and their affections are on earthy things. You do realize that life here on earth is short and temporary. Then eternity starts.

"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1,2

Right Spot

Hello Everyone,

I suppose that you have seen a dog walk in circle before finally laying down. It is funny to think about and watch. Now that I am older I understand more about why dogs do that. They are moving to get the best spot that feels the best and most comfortable. I find myself after I get into bed moving and rearranging and moving until I find the just right spot. Now let me tell what kind of spot that is, one that every part of your body is at rest and doesn't HURT. Amen. Praise God.

Walking in the Light

Hello Everyone,

Christ died to save us "from our sins," not in our sins. It is not a good sign to hear a believer either defending or excusing his sin. We as believers are prone to ignore John's pointed word to us: "These things write I unto you, that ye sin not." (1 John 2:1) God wants a cleansed and righteous people. A sincere believer must want to be rid of all sin for all coming time. Listen to the Word that proclaims "if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanses us from all sin." (1 John 2:7)

"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." 2 Corinthians 7:1

The Blood

Hello Everyone,

It has been told that Martin Luther had a dream in which he stood on the day of judgment before God Himself. And Satan was there to accuse him. When Satan opened his books full of accusations, he pointed to transgression after transgression of which Luther was guilty. As the proceedings went on, Luther's heart sunk in despair. Then he remembered the cross of Jesus Christ and turning to Satan, and said, "There is one entry which you have not made, Satan." The Devil retorted, "What is that?" And Martin Luther answered, "It is this--the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us from all sins."

Love

Hello Everyone,

A father was depressed by circumstances and feeling rejected. He called for his three daughters to comfort and reassure him. After they had talked awhile, he asked, "How much do you loved me?" Two of them answered that they loved him more than all the gold and silver in the world. The youngest said, "She loved him like salt." "Like salt!" The father replied. The answer did not seem to be a very good for he considered salt to be of very little value.

The next morning at breakfast salt was withheld from everything he ate, and the meal was so bland and some what tasteless that the father didn't enjoy it at all. Then it became very clear to him. She loved him so much that nothing was good without him! With a smile he said, "I understand now, your love is the greatest of all!"

Sheep and Goats

Hello Everyone,

In Palestine flocks of sheep and herds of goats are plentiful. They dot the countryside, clutter up highways, crowd the streets of towns and villages. Sheep have shepherds and goats have goatherds. The shepherd with his long staff walks in front of his flock and his sheep follow him. In fact, they crowd around so closely they hamper the shepherd's movement. On the other hand, the goatherd carries a short stick and walks behind his herd to keep his goats together and moving in the right direction. He has his hands full. Goats are individualists, impulsive and self willed. They dart off in all directions on personal missions of their own. Sheep calling contests are common in Palestine. Several flocks are placed in an enclosure and mixed together. Then shepherds whistle a distinctive tune; some call or shout in a peculiar manner. Some shepherds use a pipe with a particular pitch. Each shepherd's signal is understood by his own sheep and they respond immediately. They make their way through the crowded enclosure to where their shepherd is waiting. The shepherd who collects a given number of sheep in the shortest time is the winner of the contest. When Jesus mentioned sheep and goats in contrast he knew where of he spoke. There is a difference, not only in appearance but in nature and behavior. Goats are not responsive to leadership. They have to be driven. Sheep know their shepherd's voice and follow him.

"When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left." As unto the Lord

Hello Everyone,

Each of us is important to someone. Folks should be known for something. I heard the story of a clerk, who was not known for being very efficient, in a small store was not around one morning, a customer asked the owner's young son, "Where's Joe? Is he sick?" "Nope, he ain't working' here no more," was the reply. "Do you have anyone in mind for the vacancy?" inquired the customer. "Nope! Joe didn't leave a vacancy!"

Now think about that statement which characterized Joe. It applies equally to many in the church today. In serving Christ folks are so lazy and weak that if they left the church their absence would scarcely be noticed. Could that be said about you? I hope not.

Lead by Example

Hello Everyone,

I heard of a church in Kansas, there can be seen in a cement sidewalk the prints of two baby feet with the toes pointing toward the Church. It was said that 20 years ago, when the sidewalk was being laid, a mother secured permission to stand her baby boy on the wet cement. It is said that the tracks are seen today plainly. The Mother had wanted her little boy to start aright. That should be the desire of every parent. Children need to pointed to go to church. Even better than that is to lead them to church by example. Amen!

Stay Close to God

 Hello Everyone,

When we read Psalms 142, one will read the loneliness of David. David is hiding in a cave from Saul who is busy trying to kill him. What makes one lonely is being chased by the devil. The Devil knows how to get you tired, lonely and separated. He does this many times by cutting you out of the herd. Perhaps, you have seen this happen numbers of time on those nature shows. Only you may not have put thoughts of it as in your world. Now with this in mind, you maybe to come up with someone you know that the devil has cut out of the herd and that person is no longer serving God or anywhere near the church.

There may be someone reading this that is having feelings of loneliness. Sure life is not fair and things won't always go your way. I want to assure you that God really cares and loves you. You have to trust God when you have these feelings of loneliness. Trusting God keeps the devil from cutting you out of the herd. Stay close to God, stay close to those in church in those lonely days. You will be glad you did.

"Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up." Ecclesiates 4:9,10

God's Beginning

Hello Everyone,

One of my favorite time is in the morning. I love to watch God start another new day. I enjoy watching the rising of the sun and that special time when it seems that God is waking his creations up from a peaceful night of rest. It is then that the birds come alive. The crows starts to yell. The sparrow get busy looking for food. And the old owl says his last amen before retiring for the day. The flowers and plants seem to all perk up to get ready for what ever the day brings. It is a wonderful time of expecting, a reminder of God's beginning.

No need in making a decision!

Hello Everyone,

I pray that you find yourself faithful to Sunday School and to Church. It is really important and you will be glad you did. I read one day many years ago about an answer that J. Edgar Hoover gave to this question. I believe that it is still correct for today.

The late J. Edgar Hoover was once asked, "Should I make my child go to Sunday school and church?" His reply was both Scriptural and practical. "Yes," said the former head of the FBI, "you certainly should, and with no further discussion about the matter. You may be startled by my answer, but what do you say to Junior when he comes to breakfast on Monday morning and announces he isn't going to school anymore? You know! He goes! How do you answer him when he comes home covered with mud and says, 'I'm not going to take a bath.' Junior bathes, doesn't he? Why all this timidity, then, in the realm of spiritual guidance and growth? You say you're going to let him wait and decide what church he wants to go to when he is old enough? Quit your kidding! You wouldn't wait until he's grown up to choose whether he wishes to be clean or dirty, would you? Do you let him decide for himself whether to take medicine when he's sick? Do you? How shall we respond, then, when Junior says he doesn't want to go to Sunday school and church? That's easy! Just be consistent. Tell him, 'Son, in our house we ALL go to Sunday school and church, and that includes you!' Your firmness and example will furnish a bridge over which youthful rebellion will then travel into many rich and satisfying spiritual experiences."

How do they know?

Hello Everyone,

I know that at your house it is not this way, but it is at our home. We have garbage can all though out the house. Almost one in each room. Well the one in the kitchen gets filled the fastest and has to be emptied the most. So there must be this unwritten rule that the one who can't get anymore in the can has to take it out. Why, do I know this? Because it is always packed to the max. If you can get the garbage to stay and can close the lid, you are good to go. But if it runs over on your watch, you have to take it out. Why, do I know this? I am forever taking the garbage out. What I want to know is how do they know?

Slothful Workers

Hello Everyone,

Around our home everyone has a job to do. Some are like keeping your room clean. Some are jobs that need taking care on a right now basis, and is not assigned just to one person. Some of these jobs would be taking out the trash. Cleaning the cat litter box. Bring in the groceries. There have been times when one of these jobs is in need of being done and no one shows up. It is then that I hear those excuses of "I thought he was going to do it!" Or "That is someone else job!" That reminds me of that famous thought of when four men named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody were working together. One day there was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. But Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it. But Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about it, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, and Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody and Nobody did the job that Anybody could have done in the first place.

He also that is slothful in his works is brother to him that is a great waster." Proverbs 18:9

Great Commission

Hello Everyone,

One of the most successful companies in the fast food industry is Domino's Pizza. It is no surprise that the founder of the company has a clearly defined statement of mission. In owner's own words, "Domino's has a single goal. Its mission: to deliver a high-quality pizza, hot, within 30 minutes at a fair price." Everything they do at Domino's, is centered on that goal.

That should be the goal of the Church? Your Church and mine. Nothing else matters, every life is an important life. Everything is to be centered on the great commission that Jesus gave us in Matthew 28:19-20.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

Church Sign

Hello Everyone,

The church sometimes sends out false signals about its purpose. Needy people bring in their dirty laundry only to discover that the cross of forgiveness is only a sign and that the attendants are not equipped to handle. Which reminds me of a visitor in a strange city was returning from supper when a sign in a store front window caught his eye. It read "Chinese Laundry." He made a mental note of the location because he had been gone long enough to have need of a good laundry. The next morning he arrived at the store with a bag full of soiled clothes. He piled the clothes on the counter before a shocked attendant. "What's that?" the attendant asked. "My laundry," came the reply. "I've always heard that Chinese laundries do excellent work." The startled clerk quickly informed the visitor that the establishment was not a Chinese laundry. "But what about the sign in the window?" "Oh, this is not a laundry, it is a sign shop."

The church sometimes sends out false signals about its purpose. Needy people bring in their dirty laundry only to discover that the cross of forgiveness is only a sign and that the attendants are not equipped to handle soiled lives.

Church Members

Hello Everyone,

What kind of church member are you?

A lot of members are like wheelbarrows -- not good unless pushed.
Some are like canoes -- need to be paddled.
Some are like kites -- if a string isn't kept on them, they fly away.
Some are like kittens -- more contented when petted.
Some are like balloons -- full of wind and ready to blow up.
Some are like footballs -- you can't tell which way they'll bounce next.
Some are like trailers -- they have to be pulled.
Some are like neon lights -- they keep going on and off.
Many, thank goodness, are like the North Star -- there when you need them, dependable and ever loyal."

"Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;" Philippians 1:27

Being Good

Hello Everyone,

In the really 1800s a man was touring America. Once his tour was complete he made these remarks:

"I have toured America, and I have seen most of what you offer. I've seen the richness of the fields and the wealth of your mines. I've seen your industrial might, the beauties of the rivers, the streams, the lakes, and the grandeur of the mountains. I've noticed the abundance of the forests and the marvelous climate with which you are blessed. In none of these things did I see the cause for the greatness of America. It wasn't until I went into your churches that I saw the reason for America's greatness. America is great because America is good; and as long as America is good, America will be great. If it ever ceases to be good, it will cease to be great."

America still has a base for good and it is still can be found in the churches. Will you be good this Sunday and not forsaking the assembly of believers? Be good enough to invite another to go with you, you will be glad you did.

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Hebrews 10:25

Loud Walking

Hello Everyone,

I was told by this fellow that he can tell you all you need to know about a man by the way he treats his wife, his car and his job. He then smiled at me as though he was trying to figure me out. I smiled at him because I already had him figured out. One can learn a lot about folks by their walk, because your walk talks louder than your talk. And then if you insist on talking, well, that tells other the rest of the story.

Eye for Eye

Hello Everyone,

Now think about this and see if this makes sense to you. In our relationships with others, often what passes for love is little more than a neat business transaction. People are kind to us, so we repay them with kindness. When they treat us unjustly, our negative response is really what they get in return. Everything is balanced, fair, logical with this eye-for-an-eye and tooth-for-a-tooth kind of justice.

But Christian love should never settle for only what's reasonable. Christians should keep on giving even when others aren't giving. It breaks the chain of logical reactions and the devil doesn't like it. I like it when the devil does not like it.

Good Samaritan

Hello Everyone

The story was told of a college professor who had 15 students who he divided into 3 teams of five each. Unknown to each team was the assignment given was the same, the only difference was in the amount of time to accomplish their task. Each was told that this would have a big impact of their final grade.

The first group was given only 15 minutes to get over to Library. The second was given 45 minutes and the third was given 2 hours. Along the way, the professor had gotten some drama student to act out some emergencies. One student thought to be in need of getting somewhere fast and needed help. One student made as though he was having a serious head injury. And the third laid on the steps of the library and acted as though he was having a seizure. The results were amazing, no one in the first group stopped to help. Only two of the second group stopped and all five stopped in the third group. It seems that qualification for being a good Samaritans was for those who have more time. God forgive us to pass up the opportunity to be a help for those in need.

"But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him," Luke 10:33

Blessing of God

Hello Everyone,

God had called Abram to leave the land of Ur and go to the land of Canaan. What is important for you to understand is how hard of a request that was for Abram. God had asked him to leave his country, his religion and his family. Now think about that. God wanted Abram to give up his comfort, get away from his up bring and abandon his family. Would you have gone? Many would so no, but here is what they would have miss out on, the Blessing of God and knowing that you are in God's will.

"Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Draw near to God

Hello Everyone,

I heard about this patient in the mental hospital, holding his ear close to the wall, listening intently. And when the attendant approached him he said. "Sh!" and motioned for him to listen as well. The attendant pressed his ear to the wall for a long time, and said "I can't hear a thing," "I know" replied the patient, "and it's been like that all day!"

I pray that you find your walk a close walk with God this week end. That you would not be as this attendant and can't hear anything. And then later find out that it has been like that all day. Stay close to God you will be glad you did.

Clam your fears

Hello Everyone,

A sign in front of a church carried this message: "When your knees knock together, kneel on them." Now that is good advice. We are living in very scary times at best. So much uncertainties have troubled even the best of Christians. I have witness this year as the year of worries. Folks are so busy with their worries that they forget God is still in control and does all things well. Quieting our hearts before God will calm our fears and renew our courage to face another day. Praise God He knows what He is doing, Amen!

"For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us." 1 John 3:20-24

Chicken for Dinner

Hello Everyone,

Now you know that chickens are usually found out on the farm. Grandpa had plenty of them when I was a young man. I used to try to catch them. One time I believe my grandmother was trying to find something for me to do, told me to catch this one particular chicken. I gave it my best. I finally cornered it under the corn crib. But that was as far as I was going to go, that chicken gave me "the killer look" and I was afraid that she would hurt me. Grandma grab it by the head and we ate chicken for dinner that night.

Yesterday I was looking out my window and out of no where came this chicken and she was high stepping it. What is a chicken doing here and why is she in such a hurry? It was then I spotted the yellow cat close behind. That chicken stopped and started what I call a nervous walk around. It was then that I saw all the other cats lurking about. They was wanting chicken for dinner also.

Wax Worse

Hello Everyone,

I live in a subdivision and we have cats every where. I really don't know where some of these cats come from. A few years back I put up one of those motion detector light in my back yard. Well these cats would come by and at first they would run off when teh light came on, but not now. They have gotten used to the light coming on. So they invited some more friends. Now about every night around 10 o'clock we have a possum that comes by for dinner. And yes there those stinking cats would be there watching as well.

This reminded me of how we have gotten used to sin. What was once hidden under the cover of darkness is now brought out into the light. What has happen to the shame of sin? We are truly doing what the Bible tells us, getting worse and worse.

"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived."

God does all things well

Hello Everyone,

I have, and so have you, started a project and forgotten something or find out something that you did not know until you got into it. Once when I was writing a book, I had made two or three drafts and thought I was ready to put it all together. In other words I thought I had my act together. About three fourth of the way through my writing I realized that what I was writing about now, should have been included in the beginning. I got frustrated and quit. Even to this day I have gone back to finish. It was until after a period of time that I realized that it was not according to God’s will. It was according to my will. I also realized that God knows what He is doing and that the writing was not for others it was for me. It was what God knew I needed. God is always right and God does all things well.

He Careth for Me.

Hello Everyone,

When little Jimmy returned home from summer camp, his parents asked him if he had been homesick. He replied, "Not me, but some of the kids were who had dogs."

Everyone likes to think that they are important, needed or at least missed. When a friend of mine would leave for a period of time, his first remarks upon coming back is to ask if I missed him. I would always tell him that I did not know that he was gone. Folks need to feel that others love them and care. Of course the opposite of that is true as well, to be loved one must love. Caring goes both ways also. To be loved and cared for, one must be both loving and caring to others. That is why I find myself missing Jesus. For there has never been anyone that care so much for you and me.

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Peter 5:6,7

Trust God

Hello Everyone,

A few back I witness a man carving a large piece of wood with a chain saw. Boy could he make the chips fly. One could tell that was not his first time of carving with a chain saw. While he was carving there was no way you could tell what it was at first. He would a make a cut here and then another cut. Each cut would hold your imagination to what would be the end result. Then all of the sudden as if out of no where there appeared a bear. Thus man knew what he was doing and he was good at it.

God does the same with His creations. One may not be able to tell what the end result would be but God knows. God knows what He is doing and He is good at it. Trust God.

Tribulations

Hello Everyone,

A dear friend of mine has about five bee hives and he shared with me that the queen lays each egg in a six-sided cell which is filled with enough pollen and honey for the little bees to feed upon until it reaches a certain stage of maturity. The top is then sealed with wax. When the little bees have exhausted its supply of nourishment, the little fellow has to make its way out. But in doing so to get through that wax seal, the opening is so narrow that in the agony of exit, the bee rubs off the membrane that encases its wings. That is why they can fly right soon after.

Now listen, everyone wants life to be easy with no hardships. One must have these to build power to go through the next valleys. Each difficultity is to make you stronger for what lies ahead.

No Snakes

Hello Everyone,

I was talking with a man who had a Border Collie dog. That was one smart dog. He shared with me what all that dog was doing. He would bring the cows in to milk. He watched very carefully over the children getting on and off the school bus and he was always at his side when he was out in the fields working. But the one thing that he was proud of the most about that dog was he kept all snakes away from the house. His wife and kids were terrified of snakes. As long as that dog was around no snake made it into the yard.

We are just Sheep

Hello Everyone,

A lady visiting the Holy Land once came upon a sheepfold located high on a hilltop. Her attention was drawn to one poor sheep lying by the side of the road bleating in pain. Looking more closely, she discovered that its leg was injured. She asked the shepherd how it happened. "I had to break it myself," he answered sadly. "It was the only way I could keep that wayward creature from straying into unsafe places. From past experience I have found that a sheep will follow me once I have nursed it back to health. Because of the loving relationship that will be established as I care for her, in the future she will come instantly at my beck and call."

Sometimes we poor human sheep also want our stubborn ways and as a result stray into dangerous paths until the Good Shepherd may have to send sorrow and pain on us. Which brings a sweeter and closer communion with our Savior. Let me ask, is this the only time the Lord can get your attention?

Stay Faithful

Hello Everyone,

Sometimes new, younger, succeeding generations of people can toss away something that's very valuable without realizing its worth. Take church attendance, for example. Sometimes we avoid or discard the very thing we need the most. During challenging times, it's vital for us to stay connected to a healthy Bible preaching, teaching Church where we can be encouraged, nurtured, and helped. Let's not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. The Church is a great place to serve, learn, to fellowship, to bring our unsaved friends, it is the place to tithe, hear the Word of God and get away from the world for a few hours each week.

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Hebrews 10:25

Blunders

Hello Everyone,

There is a well-known brand of soap that has two uncommon qualities. It's known as "the soap which floats" and is the oldest of the best-sellers. But it wasn't always that way. Years ago this soap was just another brand among many. Then a factory foreman blundered by leaving a batch of new soap unwatched in the cooking vat during noon hour. His lunch was delayed and the soap overcooked. Rather than report the mistake and run the risk of dismissal, the foreman decided to make the best of it. He shipped out this new batch anyway. It seemed to clean just as well -- although now much lighter. The results surprised everyone. Rather than complaints the company was deluged with orders for this floating soap. The foreman was not fired but promoted when he cooperated with company chemists to revise and modify the old formula for "the soap that floats."

Blessings sometimes come from blunders. It's often possible to make something better out of something bad. That's the way God works with us. We don't often do right the first time, but He's always ready to salvage the situation no matter how bad we make it.

Compensation

Hello Everyone,

There are some men and women whose names everyone would recognize as brilliant in their fields, such as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Helen Keller, Winston Churchill, Albert Schweitzer and more. But did you know that three fourths of these men and women were troubled either by poverty, by a broken home, or by rejecting, overpossessive, or dominating parents? Physical handicaps such as blindness, deafness, or crippled limbs characterized over one-fourth of these men and women.

So how did these people go on, then, to such outstanding accomplishments? Most likely by compensation. They compensated for their weaknesses in one area by excelling in another.

"And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Never surrender

Hello Everyone,

General George Patton was a man who believed strongly that a well disciplined soldier would not only win the war, but would reach new heights of achievement. He said that to be a good soldier, a man must have discipline, self respect, pride in his unit and in his country, a high sense of duty and obligation to his comrades and his superiors, and self confidence born of demonstrated ability. When the great day of battle comes, remember your training, and remember above all that speed and vigor of attack are the sure roads to success. And you must succeed, for to retreat is as cowardly as it is fatal. Americans do not "surrender!" It was the only time throughout World War II that Patton used the word, "surrender" in any of his orders to his troops.

Same applies to Christians, we must not surrender to the devil and his devices. We are on the winning side.

God Can

Hello Everyone,

Have you ever thought that God can do all things? One dear brother shares with folks that there are three things that God can not do. 1) God can not lie. 2) God can not change. 3) God can not let you into heaven with out being Born Again.

Now think with me God could have kept Daniel out of the lions' den, he could have kept Paul and Silas out of jail, he could have kept the three Hebrew children out of the fiery furnace. But God has never promised to keep us out of hard places. What he has promised is to go with us and that is brings you an I victory.

Wax Worse

Hello Everyone,

Someone once said, Bad is called good when worse happens. Some of our good old days seem so good to us now, but when we were going through them it did not seem very good. I remember being without a job and low in hope of finding one. Yet God had gotten me through it. What scares me now is that what we are calling bad and rough times now, will we be calling them the good old days?

"Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;"

Did you see my Bible

Hello Everyone,

A few years back, I remember being in a hurry to get to church, we were running a little late. And I walked out of the house without my Bible. I asked my son to go into the house and see if my Bible was laying on the kitchen table. Off he went as fast as his little legs could carry him. "Bam" he threw open the door went in and came back just as fast, but he did not have my Bible with him. He got into the van and started to buckle up. I asked him, "Did you see my Bible on the kitchen table?" He said, "Yes, it is there." We just looked at each other and I asked why he didn't bring it to me. "Because I only asked him to see if my Bible was on the kitchen table in the house, I didn't say anything about bring it to me." We all a good laugh as I went and retrieve my Bible. I shall be more careful the next time of how I ask and what I am to ask for.

The same may need to be applied to our prayer requests to God. We may a need to be more careful the next time of how I ask and what I am to ask for.

No Fishing

Hello Everyone,
Just down the road is pond that has a sign that says "NO FISHING - PLEASE DON'T ASK." That remided me of when God forgave us of all our sins. The Bible says He put then in the deepest sea, I suppose then that God would place a sign that says "NO FISHING."
I was talking one time to a young man that ask me to pray for him about something that was sin. I told I could not ask God to bless his sin. I can imagine God placing a sign out saying, "NO FISHING - PLEASE DON"T ASK!"

"Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea."  Micah 7:18-19

Heart of the Problem

Hello Everyone,
If anything goes wrong in the home it is the responsibility of the wives. So if his shirt collar is not clean it is her fault! You have heard about the ring around the collar. She then tries everything to get that collar clean and nothing works. My wife told me he just needs to do a better job of washing his neck. Hey that seems to simple. Plus it goes right to the heart of the problem, amen!
God's Word tells the same thing. It is simple and gets right to the heart of the problem. Sin! For all have sinned. Because all have sinned, all have to be saved. That is where Jesus comes in. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. That ought to be simple enough.

"...Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."  Acts 16:30-31

Name Changes

Hello Everyone,

Here is something for you to think about. The Bible speaks of name changes. Saul was changed to Paul. Simon to Cephas. Levi to Matthew,
Jacob to Israel. What is important is that names mean something. David
means beloved, Noah means rest. Paul means little, John means gift from
God, Daniel means judge of God. The Bible also tell us that a white stone will be given to you with a new name written, which no man will know except he that received it.

Hmmm.... Now we would all like to think of what our new name
would be pleasing and God honoring. But there is 3 things to consider:
a) What you would want and like to be called. b) What will others call
you. c) What will God call you. You see truthfully you and God are the
only ones that really know what your new name would be. And then we have
a habit of lying to ourselves, but God will not. My questions to you
would be, What new name would you like to be called? Then are you really
living up to that new name? Hmmmm...

"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna,
and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written,
which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it." Revelation 2:17
